"I Love My Library" says band Lunch Money

I’m going to the library…to see my librarian…who’ll send me home with 60 things…as if I could carry them (I’ll bring my red wagon)…Passing out the picture books like my granny hands out food…”Leggi, leggi, take all of these…And you might like this one too”…and my brain’s getting fat on stories and facts…and it feels like love…All the librarians…they say come follow me…They’re looking straight at me….They take me seriously….and all the things that I’d never have picked….become my new favorites…I show them to my friends at school…and they get addicted too (to Nancy Drew)…I feel so understood when a story’s this good…Oh, it feels like love…All the things that I could ever wonder about are waiting here for me…All the places I could ever wander to…I have a ticket for free…and guess who tossed me the keys?…Books about boys and girls and magic worlds…Heroic dogs, a toad, a frog…Sleuthing teens and big machines…Hippo friends and astronauts…Freight trains and snowy days…Wind-up mice and caps for sale…Lightning and wild things…I love my library.

NEW RESOURCES FROM (US) NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO

You can now receive news and information from NPR through RSS feeds. News feeds available are: top stories, arts and culture, business, health and science, opinion, people and places, politics and society, U.S. news, and world news. Program feeds are: All Things Considered, Morning Edition, Day to Day, Talk of the Nation, Fresh Air with Terry Gross, News and Notes, Tell Me More, Weekend Edition (both Saturday and Sunday), World Café, and From the Top. There are also topic feeds (for instance, authors, books, environment, music—various types, politics, sports, etc.) and links to feeds from selected member stations. What a great resource!

Also from NPR is NPR Music, “a free, multi-genre Web site that presents the best of public radio music.” It is a collaboration with 12 public radio stations. They also have a Flash-based media player. Sections include live concerts, studio sessions, interviews and profiles, and song of the day. You can also browse by artist or limit yourself to just one genre (rock/pop/folk, classical, jazz & blues, world, and urban).

A NEW SONG FOR THE MODERN LIBRARIAN

There is a great new librarian song, Addy Will Know, by the indie pop band SNMNMNM. “Serving as a musical tribute to the modern librarian, it is about a real librarian [related to one of the band members] who leads a lost patron to the four books he is looking for. The names of the books are never mentioned, but as a kind of puzzle, the song itself includes call numbers that correspond to the books hinted at in the verses.”

The band invites you to participate in this phenomenon.

“Record yourself singing the song at work or school, upload your video to sendspace or yousendit then email us (snmnmnm@gmail.com, with subject as Addy+Will+Know+-+Video+Submissions) the link. We will edit your video with all the others, creating a video collage of modern librarians.

“Be one of the first ten librarians to identify the books of the call numbers mentioned in the song and you will win a copy of the new cd Crawl Inside Your Head.” Winners’ names will be posted on the wiki.
